Our History

The St. Louis Men's Group Against Cancer is a leading nonprofit dedicated to funding cancer research, prevention, and care in the St. Louis community.

Our story began in 1969, when a group of people came together around a shared desire to make a difference. They saw how cancer was affecting so many people in their lives — friends, family, coworkers — and they wanted to do something about it. What started as a simple gathering grew into an organized effort to raise funds and direct them where they were needed most.

By 1980, the goal was even clearer: rather than reinvent the wheel, the group decided to serve as a central fundraising force that could amplify the work of organizations already on the front lines. That's what still makes us unique — we don't focus on just one area. We support nonprofits doing life-changing work across three vital fronts: research that drives toward a cure and a deeper understanding of cancer genetics, prevention that stops cancer before it starts, and care that eases the daily burden for patients, their families, and the caregivers also affected by a diagnosis.

Over the years, our mission has stayed the same — to help as many people as possible, from cutting-edge science to day-to-day care right here in Missouri and the St. Louis community. It's a grassroots story, really: a few people who cared deeply, grown into a community that cares even more. Every dollar we grant makes a real difference toward a common goal — bringing hope, comfort, and answers to those touched by cancer, and one day helping to end it altogether.
